Men of Substance and Probity": The Rise of the Minute Men in Essex and York Counties in 1775

On the eve of the American Revolution, most Massachusetts towns began to form minute man companies.  These rapid response units were designed to mobilize into action in the event of a British military strike.

Join historian and author Alexander Cain as he discusses the steps taken by residents in York County,  Maine and Merrimack Valley, MA  prepare for war with England.  Attention will be given to the formation of minute man companies, how minute men were armed and equipped, who trained them for war and what the minute companies did after they received word of the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

This lecture will be followed by a hearty soup supper in Jefferds Tavern. BYOB
